Daily Delve is a free daily video game trivia game at dailydelve.io, run by RYL Software ("we"). We're the controller of the personal data described here. Questions or requests: hello@ryl.software.
What we collect
When you play without an account
- A random player ID, kept in a cookie on your device, so the game knows which run is yours. It isn't linked to your name or email.
- Your game records: the answers you type (including wrong guesses), your scores, when you played and how long you took.
When you sign in
- Your sign-in account is handled by Clerk, our sign-in provider. Clerk stores your email address and anything you add to your profile or bring from Google or Discord if you sign in with them (such as your name and profile picture).
- What we store: your Clerk user ID, the leaderboard name you choose, your adventurer's look and gear, and a one-way scrambled form (a hash) of your verified email address. The hash can't be turned back into your email; we only use it to reconnect your account if we ever move to a new sign-in setup.
- Your game records as above, including any days you played on that browser before signing in, which move into your account.
When you send feedback
- Your message, what it's about (for example the question you were looking at), the page you sent it from, and your player ID, so we can tell repeated messages apart and stop abuse. Please don't put personal details in it. We only read it ourselves; other players never see it.
Technical data
- Our host processes your IP address and browser details in server logs to deliver the site and keep it secure.
- Your browser's local storage keeps a few preferences, such as sound on or off. These stay on your device. See the cookie policy.
We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and we don't sell your data.
How we use it
- To run the daily game fairly: timers, guess limits and one run per day.
- To show your results, streaks, lifetime XP, cosmetics and leaderboard places.
- To improve the questions: we look at what players type, all together, to find missing answers and fix how rare answers are.
- To understand how the game is played, in totals only: how many people play and finish each day, and how each question went.
- To read and act on feedback and suggestions.
- To keep the site secure, prevent cheating and abuse, and reply when you contact us.
Our legal bases are our legitimate interests in running, improving and protecting a free game, and, for account features, providing the service you signed up for under our terms.
What other players can see
If you sign in and choose a name, the leaderboards show that name, your XP, how many days you've played and your adventurer. Nothing else about you is shown. Your results are only shared if you copy and post them yourself.
So a result can be shared, when your run ends we save a short link for it: the day, how each answer scored and, if you're signed in, how your adventurer is dressed. It doesn't include your name, your answers or anything that links it to you or your account. Anyone with the link sees that result and its picture.
Who else handles it
- Vercel hosts the site and its server logs.
- Neon runs our database (through Vercel).
- Clerk provides accounts and sign-in.
- Google or Discord, only if you choose to sign in with them; their own privacy policies apply to that.
These providers may process data in the United States and elsewhere. They do so under safeguards recognised for UK data transfers, such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Game records: for as long as Daily Delve runs, so results, streaks and leaderboards stay correct, unless you ask us to delete them.
- Account details: until you ask us to delete your account.
- Shared result links: for as long as Daily Delve runs, so links you've posted keep working.
- Feedback: for as long as it helps us improve the game, and never more than two years. Ask us and we'll delete it sooner.
- Server logs: for the short period our host keeps them.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to get a copy of it, or to object to or limit how we use it. Email hello@ryl.software (from the address on your account, if you have one) and we'll reply within a month. Deleting your account removes your name, adventurer and game records from Daily Delve; deleting your sign-in profile in Clerk's account settings alone doesn't, so please email us too. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Accounts are for players aged 13 and over. If you think a child under 13 has signed up or sent us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
